Melissa’s artwork is distinctive as it combines various disciplines such as photography and printmaking, using her photographs as the basic material to move into etching. As a photographer she manipulates the material to create untraditional, more overtly ‘crafted’ work that emphasised surreal dislocation. The Sandscapes series is a work in progress where ideas and plates come together to produce slightly surreal images and more abstract textural studies where scales and perspectives are ambiguous, turning small details into surreal aerial views.
